3.8.5 Business Rules and Validations

• Topic Name Requirements:
  • Rule:
    • Uniqueness: Each topic name must be unique within the system to prevent confusion and ensure clear categorization.
    • Mandatory Field: The topic name is a required field and cannot be left blank.
  • Validation:
    • The system checks for existing topic names before allowing the creation or renaming of a topic.
    • Ensures that the topic name adheres to any predefined format or length restrictions (if applicable).
  • Error Handling:
    • If a duplicate or missing topic name is detected, an error message is displayed prompting the user to choose a different name.
• Parent Topic Selection:
  • Rule:
    • Validity: Users must select an existing topic as the parent when creating or editing a topic.
    • Hierarchy Maintenance: Ensures a proper hierarchical structure within topics.
  • Validation:
    • The system verifies that the selected parent topic exists and is valid.
  • Error Handling:
    • If an invalid parent topic is selected, an error message is displayed prompting the user to choose a valid parent.
• Protected Topics:
  • Rule:
    • Default Topic Protection: The “Default” topic is protected and cannot be deleted to maintain foundational categorization.
  • Validation:
    • The system prevents deletion actions on protected topics.
  • Error Handling:
    • If a user attempts to delete a protected topic, an error message is displayed explaining the restriction.
• Child Topics and Associated FAQs:
  • Rule:
    • Deletion Constraints: A topic with child topics or associated FAQs cannot be deleted until all dependencies are resolved.
  • Validation:
    • The system checks for existing child topics and associated FAQs before permitting deletion.
  • Error Handling:
    • If dependencies are found, an error message is displayed instructing the user to reassign or delete them first.
